FAQs

1. What is DJI Cellular Dongle Enhanced Transmission?

DJI Cellular Dongle Enhanced Transmission dynamically combines OcuSync and 4G technologies:

① OcuSync Strong: Maintains basic 4G without data transmission—preserving low-latency performance and minimizing data usage;

② OcuSync Weak: Auto-activates 4G data ("Enhanced Transmission Phase") during interference/obstruction/distance;

③ OcuSync Disconnected: Relies solely on 4G for bidirectional drone-to-ground video/command transmission.

2. How much data usage does DJI Cellular Dongle consume?

When fully relying on DJI Cellular Dongle for transmissions, the air unit will consume a maximum of around 1 GB during a 30-minute flight. The ground unit will consume a similar amount of data.

3. How should I enable Enhanced Transmission in DJI Fly? 

The drone has been equipped with a DJI Cellular Dongle module with an inserted nano-SIM card (eSIM is not supported*).

After powering on, check the status of the DJI Cellular Dongle indicator light. A solid or blinking green light indicates a normal status.

After establishing a 4G connection between the drone and the remote controller, in order to enable Enhanced Transmission, you can choose either to tap the 4G signal icon in the top right corner to open the menu, or to tap the "···" icon in the top right corner to open the menu.

4. How can I check the activation date of DJI Cellular Dongle? Where can I find the serial number? 

You can find the serial number on the back of DJI Cellular Dongle, which is displayed as IMEI code. Please input the complete IMEI code on the Device Info Inquiry page to check the activation date. If it is unable to check it, please save the IMEI code and contact DJI Support for assistance. 

5. Why is a subscription fee required? How much is the subscription fee?

The enhanced transmission requires a relay server to facilitate low-latency 4G video transmission coupled forwarding, the subscription fee covers the cost of renting servers and cloud services. 

The subscription fee is (local currency) 29 EUR /year. Specific details are subject to the purchase page.

6. How can I renew the subscription when it expires?

After your subscription expires, DJI Fly will prompt you to renew. Please follow the instructions in the app.

7. Does DJI Cellular Dongle have any restrictions on telecommunication carriers?

There is no restriction, and it is advisable to use a SIM card provided by a local carrier. 

8. Can I get a refund if cancel it after subscription?

DJI Cellular Dongle subscription is a digital product that activates immediately upon payment, with no returns or replacements allowed. If you already paid, we recommend continuing to use it for ensured drone safety. You can choose not to renew it once the subscription expires.

9. How much is the delay when using Enhanced Transmission?

Under optimal signal conditions, the minimum delay is approximately 200 ms. The LTE transmission fluctuates with signal quality—poor conditions may cause seconds-long delays, compromising both video transmission and control. Please pay attention to the 4G signal strength during the flight.

10. Why I don't have the Enhanced Transmission function switch?

Cause of Issue:

① Failed to connect DJI Cellular Dongle.

② The firmware version has not been updated to the latest.

③ The app version has not been updated to the latest.

④ DJI Cellular Dongle failed to recognize the SIM card set with a PIN.

⑤ The drone model does not support Enhanced Transmission (DJI Cellular Dongle supports DJI Mavic 3 Series & DJI Mini 3 Pro; DJI Cellular Dongle 2 supports DJI Mini 4 Pro/DJI Air 3/DJI Air 3S).

Solution:

① Please check if the DJI Cellular Dongle is successfully connected.

② Once connected, the indicator on the DJI Cellular Dongle will turn on.

③ If the indicator does not turn on, please try unplugging and reconnecting the cable.

④ If the indicator is on, please update both the firmware and the app to the latest versions. 

⑤ And also please check if the SIM card has been set with a PIN. If it has, it needs to be cancelled.

Follow the steps below to update the firmware:

① Go to [Profile > Device Management > Select Aircraft Model > My Accessories], and select "DJI Cellular Dongle".

② Based on whether the dongle is inserted into the drone or the remote controller, select the corresponding dongle ("DJI Cellular Dongle of Aircraft" or "RC Cellular Dongle"). Scroll to the bottom and tap "Check for Firmware Updates".

③ If Enhanced Transmission is enabled, the firmware update will fail and a prompt saying "Display Enhanced Transmission before update firmware" will appear.

Below take DJI Cellular Dongle 2 and DJI Air 3S as an example: 

Follow the steps below to cancel the PIN:

General Steps (Android):
① Go to the Settings app on your Android device. 
② Find and tap on "Security" or "Lock screen & security". 
③ Look for options like "SIM card lock," "SIM PIN," or "Mobile operator settings," and tap on it. 
④ Toggle off the switch or button next to "Lock SIM card" or "SIM card lock". 
⑤ You'll be prompted to enter your current SIM PIN. Enter it and tap "OK" or "Confirm". 
⑥ The SIM PIN lock will be disabled, and you won't be required to enter it when you restart your phone or swap SIM cards. 

General Steps (iPhone):
① Go to the Settings app on your iPhone.
② Tap on "Cellular".
③ If you have a single SIM or eSIM, go to "SIM PIN." If you have Dual SIM or Dual eSIM, tap the number you want to modify, then go to "SIM PIN".
④ Toggle off the switch next to "SIM PIN".
⑤ If prompted, enter your current SIM PIN and tap "Done". 

11. How should I resolve the issue when it is unable to enable Enhanced Transmission or unable to access DJI Cellular Dongle data?

Scenario 1: Your SIM card Internet connection is working properly. After installing the DJI Cellular Dongle and connecting it to the drone, the indicator is solid green, but Enhanced Transmission fails to activate, occasionally with prompts indicating inability to retrieve DJI Cellular Dongle data.

Solution: Please update the firmware of the drone and the remote controller to the latest version, make sure the app is the latest, and reconnect to DJI Cellular Dongle.  

Scenario 2: The 4G signal displays red “Unavailable”, and the app prompts “Unable to establish 4G communications. Check network connection.”

Solution: Please check if the DJI Cellular Dongle indicator is solid green or blinking. If it is solid green or blinking, please confirm if the Wi-Fi on your smartphone is disabled, and then enable the data usage to reconnect.

12. When enabling Enhanced Transmission, is it common if the signal strength of the air unit or the ground unit is unstable or weak?

Enhanced Transmission performance relies on public 4G networks, subject to signal strength at air unit and the ground unit, as well as the network traffic load of the base station. In dense areas with limited shared resources, unpredictable bandwidth/latency may cause unstable signals. When using DJI Cellular Dongle, avoid flights >120m, as 4G base stations do not broadcast signals upward, potentially degrading signal quality.

13. Troubleshooting Plan for DJI Cellular Dongle Malfunction

① Check for the 4G icon in the top right corner of the DJI Fly app's camera view. If the 4G icon is not displayed, it is recommended to wait for one minute. If it is still not displayed, reinstall the DJI Cellular Dongle.
② If there is a 4G icon on the camera view with a double row of phantom dots, tap the 4G icon and enable Enhanced Transmission.
③ If the 4G icon on the camera view is red, check whether the dongle is connected to the antenna cable, then tap the 4G icon, and troubleshoot following the prompts in the app.
④ If a network error appears top-left in camera view, open the Network Troubleshooting prompt and follow instructions. Check the smartphone Internet status by opening DJI Academy in the app. If the remote controller is with a built-in screen, please connect to a Wi-Fi and open DJI Academy to check the Internet status.
⑤ If it prompts “No internet on drone DJI Cellular Dongle”, please check if the SIM card has been set with a PIN. If it has, it needs to be cancelled (refer to 10. Follow the steps below to cancel the PIN to check out the detailed method). If it is necessary to set an APN, it is recommended to do so before use. Additionally, the SIM card status can be checked on the smartphone.

14. What is the longest reachable distance of Enhanced Transmission when the drone is equipped with DJI Cellular Dongle 2?

After the OcuSync transmission is disconnected, the Enhanced Transmission will work independently. Therefore, the distance is unlimited. The distance of transmission is limited by those factors including interferences in the environment, 4G network strength, and base stations.

15. Does DJI Cellular Dongle come with a built-in battery?

There is no built-in battery in DJI Cellular Dongle or DJI Cellular Dongle 2.

16. What is the cable clamp of DJI Cellular Dongle 2 used for? How can I use it?

The cable clamp is used for securing the antenna cable inside the DJI Air 3 compartment in order to easily plug the cable connector into DJI Cellular Dongle 2.

First, fasten the antenna connector with the cable clamp. Then, plug the antenna connector into DJI Cellular Dongle 2 with DJI logo facing upwards, and arrange the antenna properly.

17. How can I check the validity period of my DJI Cellular Dongle 2?

You can check it via DJI Fly by the following path: [Profile > Device Management > My Accessories > DJI Cellular Dongle > Validity Period].

18. Which SIM cards are applicable to DJI Cellular Dongle?

DJI Cellular Dongle supports official telecommunication carrier SIM cards. We recommend purchasing one from an official telecommunication carrier.

SIM cards purchased from unofficial channels are highly likely to be IoT cards, as their high-latency routing causes significantly poorer 4G Enhanced Transmission performance than standard SIMs. Therefore, it is not recommended to use them.

19. Can DJI Cellular Dongle 2 function properly without connecting to the antenna cable inside the drone? 

Enhanced Transmission can only function properly with the antenna connection.

21. Can DJI Cellular Dongle or DJI Cellular Dongle 2 be used as a wireless network adapter for a computer?

DJI Cellular Dongle can be used as a wireless network adapter for a Windows computer through the driver downloaded from DJI official website. Other computer systems are currently not applicable.

Since DJI Cellular Dongle 2 does not come with a built-in antenna, it cannot be used as a wireless network adapter for a computer.

22. Is it common if the inserted DJI Cellular Dongle 2 has serious heating issue? 

We understand your concerns. Inside the dongle compartment, there is dedicated graphite heat-dissipating foam for cooling down DJI Cellular Dongle 2.

Additionally, DJI Cellular Dongle 2 has metal casings to facilitate heat conduction.

As a result, the DJI Cellular Dongle 2 may feel warm during prolonged use, but this is normal. Furthermore, it has undergone multiple high-temperature tests to ensure the smooth operation of the Enhanced Transmission function. Please feel assured in using it.

23. When using DJI Mini 4 Pro equipped with DJI Cellular Dongle 2, issues may occur including activation failure, inability to connect to the Internet, or blinking red indicator lights. How can I resolve these issues?

Please check if you have installed the DJI Cellular Dongle 2 mounting kit (including a 4G antenna and antenna connectors), as connecting without it causes weak signals and disconnection. Unstable signal connection may lead to issues including activation failure, inability to activate, and inability to enable Enhanced Transmission.

* When using DJI Air 3 equipped with DJI Cellular Dongle 2, the DJI Cellular Dongle 2 is installed inside the drone body and does not require additional mounting kits.

24. Why is it not possible to switch DJI Cellular mode manually?

For safety reasons, the enhanced transmission function can only be enabled after establishing a connection through OcuSync. Remote takeoff is not allowed.
In a 4G-only transmission scenario, restarting the remote controller or DJI Fly will result in Failsafe RTH. The 4G transmission cannot be restored before it is reconnected to 4G networks.


Notes: In the 4G-only transmission scenario, a 3-minute takeoff countdown for DJI Air 3 will start after the drone lands, and a 1-minute takeoff countdown for DJI Mini 4 Pro will start after the drone lands.

25. Does DJI Cellular Dongle 2 support an eSIM card?

It is not supported currently.
